Battlefield Leadership has been providing ongoing support to intact work teams following battlefield programs at Gettysburg and Normandy since 2005. These renewal programs typically focus on one or two leadership practices or themes highlighted during the team’s experience on the battlefield, and they are custom-designed to amplify these concepts in relationship to real current business issues as well as further anchor the lessons and language from the battlefield into the workplace.

Frequently, renewal programs are designed to address competencies or practices embodied in internal, company leadership models and which can be reinforced or strengthened by additional or more in-depth references to stories or case studies from the battles or historic events. Other renewal programs are designed based on leadership examples or case studies taken from history, but not necessarily derived from the battles of Gettysburg or Normandy.

Occasionally, based on the locations chosen for these follow-up sessions, these programs may include on-location visits to historic sites, and they will typically include a lively combination of pre-reading, video, facilitated discussions, case studies and small group exercises, as well as the introduction of various models from military leadership or the broader “management science” arena.

My focus over the last thirteen years has been, above all else, on leadership. During these years of inquiry, no one has defined leadership quite as succinctly or effectively as you did at our session; character and competency says it all.
